Notebooks of the craft

What we write before selling it.

Mohamed Ben publishes between three and five texts a year on the craft. None is a press release. All are operational lessons that end up signing a trip, a decision, a host.

Why we sign by hand and not in series

An agency that signs twelve trips a year cannot keep twelve promises. The arithmetic decides. We learned it in 2021, when we accepted one booking too many and knew, before even leaving, that we would let someone down. Since then nothing is signed that doesn't fit a real diary. The next one is never signed, not even at twice the deposit.

    The fair price in Morocco

In Marrakech, a fourteen-room riad charges the end client the same rate it charges an agency. Cross-commissions — the money a hotel pays an agency for sending a client — are the silent disease of luxury travel. We refuse them. The final dossier proves it.

What I learned in 2011 with the first family

The first time we signed a trip we had no website. The first family that trusted us came through a phone call placed from Lausanne. That week I understood two things that still govern the house: you don't sell what you haven't walked, and you don't sign what you can't sustain through the whole trip without asking anyone for help.

    Three hosts we turned down

A riad in the medina with views over the Koutoubia. A camp in the Sahara with five generations. A house-museum on the outskirts of Fez. Three beautiful places we turned down for the same reason: none would charge the end client the same rate they charged us. Criterion is the rule, not sentimentality.
