Blue city of the Rif. Founded in 1471 as a refuge for expelled Andalusians and Sephardic Jews. The entire medina has been painted blue since the 1930s — some say to repel mosquitoes, others by Sephardic tradition.

Chefchaouen works if you arrive before dawn and leave before eleven. After that, the streets fill up. We only recommend one night. Combine with Tangier or Volubilis.
